BELLE DE JOUR

The 1967 film starring Catherine Deneuve is full of chic, timeless yet fashionable costumes, that may have inspired some of the current trends seen on the recent runways. The film depicts the double life of Séverine Serizy, a frustrated housewife daylighting as a prostitute. The film is erotic in plot alone, but the concept that a married, well-off woman would choose of her own accord to become a hooker is just so fascinating, and almost intriguing, mainly because Deneuve's character is so classy and chic that she makes even prostitution look elegant.

The looks seen in the film were reincarnated in the recent runway collections of Burberry Prorsum (famed for their twists on the classic Burberry trench), and Dolce & Gabbana (best known for their incredibly flattering and feminine corset dresses)

MAINTAINING EQUILIBRIUM

Light and dark, masculine and feminine, leather and lace, comedy and drama. These sort of pairings often create an equilibrium. How can we constantly be lighthearted and happy? We need to experience dark times in order to fully appreciate the blissful experiences that life brings us. These are my random musings on life, film, art, and fashion.

Current Style: Masculin/Feminin. British Schoolgirl (toggle coats, plaid, trench coats, braids) mixed with masculine pieces (striped button downs, oxfords, trench coats)

THE MULBERRY ALEXA BAG
Buttery soft brown leather that only gets better with age, gold hardware, a masculine/briefcase feel. A braided handle and a shoulder strap. Absolute perfection in a bag.

PENDLETON MEETS OPENING CEREMONY
The classic, rugged, navajo style prints are so appealing, I recently bought Pendleton throw pillows on ebay that added a touch of rustic color to my blue velvet couch. Now if I could only afford the gorgeous Opening Ceremony x Pendleton pieces, I would be sublimely happy.

INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS
Two words: Melanie Laurent. The stunning French actress, who played the ass-kicking Shoshanna, made the movie for me. And her gorgeous costumes were the cherry on top of the already amazing cake.
